The following article presents a quantitative study of the breathing patterns as recorded for each of he basic emotions. Susana Bloch says: “I have always found interesting to consider the results of our exhaustive analysis of the breathing patterns as a scientific response to the genial intuition of Antonin Artaud, the great French poet and dramaturge, who wrote in 1932: breathing accompanies the emotion, and it is possible to enter into the feeling through the breath, provided one could discriminate which breathing corresponds towhich emotion. Alba Emoting, having measured the specific respiratory rhythm for each basic emotion, provides an answer to Artaud’s poetic quest. Besides, by demonstrating experimentally that it is possible to generate a particular emotion via de corresponding breathing pattern, our research also responds to Artaud’s affirmation, expressed in his above quoted words. In our terms, this would mean a “bottom-up method for emotional induction.”
The following article demonstrates that the respiratory patterns for each basic emotion are not only qualitatively differentiated, but quantitatively as well.
